Customer Tile Style Profile: Lauren’s Kitchen Revamp

Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes a closer look at some of the amazing renovation and redesign projects our customers undertake using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month we’ve found time to cram in an extra feature – read on to find out how Lauren Rutherford of West Lothian used our Muralla Grey tiles to jazz up her tired old kitchen…

What were the circumstances behind the project?

We purchased a new family home in May and we loved the house but the inside really needed updating, especially the kitchen.

Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the room?

I knew I wanted a grey kitchen so I picked the worktop first and then tried to find tiles to match. The looking part proved very time-consuming though!

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

After visiting all the local tile shops and not finding anything I tried looking online. I knew I wanted to make a feature wall behind my cooker but couldn’t decide what type of tile to use so I ordered lots of samples from Tile Mountain and when the final one arrived I knew that it was the one!

How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?

I used a professional tiler to do the job. He was so impressed with the tile feature wall he suggested I didn’t bother with an upstand around the rest of the worktop and create two rows high with tiles instead. I’m so glad I did as it looks great

What part of the project was most difficult and why?

It was pretty straightforward really – the tiler didn’t have any complaints about the tiles at all, so I guess the most difficult part was probably removing the old wall tiles and prepping the floor.

Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?

I would love to do a tiling project in my garden and create nice seating area (check out what Kevin Cloud did with our tiles in his garden for inspiration – Ed)

What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?

Make sure you order samples and look at customer photos on the website to give an idea how the tiles will look. I also took my samples into the kitchen showroom to check they would match the worktop.

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?

I would say definitely buy from Tile Mountain. I can’t fault anything, from the samples I was sent to the delivery. The quality of the tiles are great and much cheaper than anywhere else.
