How I Got the Carrara Marble Look Without The Pricetag

There’s no doubt that the look of marble is a huge trend this year and it doesn’t look to be going anywhere for quite a while. The soft natural grains give the luxury material a natural look and movement and the soft white and grey colour palette is a perfect fit for so many styles. The issue when it’s used in a kitchen, however, is that sourcing and installing real marble can be a costly ordeal. Quality marble is expensive and not particularly environmentally friendly. It also has the characteristics of a lot of other natural stones – it can etch and stain easily and it can be difficult to maintain a pristine finish over time.

So while I adore the look of marble, when it came to my own kitchen remodel, I realised not only would it take up a hefty part of my budget, I’d be forever worried about getting either my tiles or worktops dirty. Both my other half and I love to cook and while I like to keep things tidy, I can’t always guarantee there may not be an accident with a glass of red wine or a dollop of curry sauce dropped or splashed whilst we prepare and enjoy meals.

Thankfully, I found another solution to purchasing real marble. Enter Tile Mountain’s Marble Effect porcelain tiles which have the look of honed marble without either the price or the upkeep. I used the Carrara Marble Matt Wall Tile in 150cm x 75cm size to create a beautiful soft kitchen backsplash that not only looks stunning but are super hard wearing as well.

They look so much like the real thing, most people assume they are real honed marble. Advanced inkjet technology in porcelain tiles can print the look of a marble slab onto a larger piece of tile and then the larger piece is cut into individual tiles. The result is that all the tiles look different from one another but, of course, still work together. The grain looks completely natural.

In a brick formation pattern as I’ve used in my kitchen, the look is trendy but still classic enough that I know it won’t date quickly. I used a brass trim to match with the other gold elements in the space and combined these tiles with an acrylic worktop from Minerva, a dead ringer for real marble as well.

There are more marble-effect tiles for both walls and floors in Tile Mountain’s range so you can choose from a few different kinds.

For larger format wall tiles, check out the Carrara Marble Wall Tile in 500cm x 200cm. These are pre-sealed and perfect for a bathroom or wetroom.

Combine the larger tile with the smaller Carrara Marble Mosaic Wall Tile which comes in 500cm x 200cm as a perfect compliment.

And for floors, you may wish to consider the Calacatta White Italian Porcelain tile in 1195cm x 595cm. The large format makes a striking statement when used in either a bathroom or a kitchen and it can be used on both the walls as well as the floors.
