How to Choose the Right Tile

With so many options of materials and styles to choose from, it may be baffling to know which direction to go in terms of your own kitchen or bathroom remodel. The tile options can be overwhelming and once we decide on a tile type, the question of the best adhesive and grouts come into play.

At the end of the day, we want to make sure this investment in our home is grounded in the knowledge that the products we choose are the best for our homes and our lifestyles. We want to know that each element is fit for purpose and will stand the test of time.

Choosing Your Tile

Consider what might work best for the style of your home and your personal aesthetic. A traditional stone may look fantastic in an older property while a glazed ceramic might look right at home in a more contemporary setting. Or you may want to create a juxtaposition of styles by purposely choosing materials which contrast to their surroundings. Your own style and personality will really determine what tiles are best for you.

Porcelain (Matt)

• Hard wearing ideal for floors, making it perfect for high traffic areas.
• Requires little or no maintenance.
• Often has anti-slip properties.
• Can be used outdoors.
• Requires little or no maintenance.
• Available in larger sizes, ideal for larger rooms.
• Moisture and stain resistant.
• Often comes with a clean rectified edge.

Porcelain (Polished)

• Hard wearing ideal for floors, perfect for high traffic areas.
• Elegant Designs.
• Requires little or no maintenance.
• Polished surface reflects light.
• Available in larger sizes, making it ideal for larger rooms.
• Resistant to moisture and stains.
• Often comes with a clean rectified edge.

Natural Stone

• Actual stone so looks beautifully authentic.
• Products such as Travertine are often rustic in appearance, providing an aged look.
• Hard wearing, but does require some maintenance, such as sealing.
• Marbles provide a very elegant and stylish look.

Glass Mosaic

• Vibrant colours available so great to add a splash of colour and/or texture.
• Flexibility allows individual designs to be created.
• Reflects light.
• Inexpensive way to personalise a room i.e. 3-4 sheets can be cut into borders, accent panels or vertical strips.
