Welcome to the first in our new, semi-regular feature Craft Bits, in which we show you how you can use tiles in an array of cool craft projects.

It’s Easter weekend and whilst for some of you that may mean a long relaxing weekend, for those with young children it often presents the challenge of keeping the youngsters occupied before they return to school. If that sounds like you then fear not as we have the perfect project to while away and afternoon; Easter-Themed Tile Coasters.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Here’s How You Do It:

Wipe the tiles clean with a damp cloth, making sure they are completely dry before starting to draw on them.

Sketch out your Easter-themed design using the Chinagraph pencil. You can use the markers to create a subtle backdrop at this point if you like.

After you’ve filled in the outline of your design, you can start to colour in as you see fit. TOP TIP: You can achieve textures and shades by using the markers to create a block of colour then using your finger to smudge together.

Add the finishing touches to you freshly Easter-ified tile then leave to stand for at least 30 minutes to allow the marker ink to completely dry. Now would be a good time to wash your hands!

Ensuring you’re at least 30cm away and in a well-ventilated room, coat the tiles in the clear spray varnish and leave to dry for another 30 minutes. Finally, cut the felt to the size of the tile, peel off the backing, and stick it to the bottom of the tile. Et viola! You’ve made some fantastic Easter tile coasters
