Customer Tile Style Profile: Alex & Emma’s Bathroom Revamp

Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes an in-depth look at some of the fantastic renovation and redesign projects our customers complete using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month’s edition features Alex and Emma of Lowestoft who used our Linear Grey Gloss Wall Tiles to rejuvenate a tired bathroom space in their newly purchased property. We caught up with them to find out more about how the project went…

What were the circumstances behind the project?

We had recently moved into the house and part of us buying the property we knew it needed a lot of work from the ground up, we couldn’t wait to start renovating and decided to begin with the main bedroom and en-suite. We wanted to turn a house into our home with our own personal touch, and, being a graphic designer, I had lots of ideas and really wanted to put our ‘stamp’ on the house.

Was your choice of decor and colour style influenced by the tiles you chose or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you had chosen for the rest of the scheme?

We knew we wanted to have this style of tile from the beginning – but weren’t sure initially about which colour. Eventually, we decided grey was a good colour to go with as not only we felt it was on trend, but we could then adapt the rest of the bathroom furnishings around that. However,  the overall design of the house is generally minimalist and Scandinavian inspired, so we knew we had a clear vision of how we wanted it to look.

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

We really liked the idea of subway style tiles, but the reason we knew these were the right ones for our project is because unlike many other subway tiles, these are flat in appearance and don’t have a fussy bevelled edge like many do.

How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?

The project took around two months to complete –  we stripped the room completely and fitted most of it ourselves, including the tiling, scheduling the work around our daily jobs. It also took a tad longer as I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I had to ensure the tiles we perfectly cut!

What part of the project was most difficult and why?

The hardest part of the project was cutting the tiles around the windows. Having never done any tiling before it took us a bit longer for us to work out the correct spacing and the best way to cut the tiles to prevent any chips. We used a few offcuts and as they say ‘practice makes perfect’!

Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?

Yes we do – we are slowly renovating the whole house. There are two more bathrooms to complete and we loved the tiles so much we are using exactly the same ones for the other bathrooms! We also intend for the look and feel of both bathrooms to be exactly the same.

What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?

Make sure you have a good plan for your project and a clear idea of what you want to achieve. Research ideas and products you want to buy and don’t be afraid to shop around for each product. Enjoy the renovation!

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?

Definitely do it! Not only is there such a wide choice of tiles to fit any type of project, but the quality and price are great! The whole experience of searching and buying tiles from Tile Mountain was easy and delivery and the ongoing customer service has been brilliant.
