Customer Tile Style Profile: Carina’s Contemporary Bathroom

Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes an in-depth look at some of the fantastic renovation and redesign projects our customers complete using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month’s edition features Carina of Taunton, Somerset who used our Toscana Silver Rectified Wall And Floor Tiles to create a contemporary bathroom space with a 5-star hotel vibe.

What were the circumstances behind the project?

We made the decision to renovate all three bathrooms in the house at some stage due to them all being very bland and dull. Lockdown gave us an opportunity to achieve this in a matter of weeks.

Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the room?

Our whole house theme is grey so we wanted to keep in line with this. We searched long and hard for the right tiles to suit both a new build and the modern style we have throughout the house.

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

We wanted our bathrooms to not only be modern but to have a feel of a 5-star hotel so we got inspiration for the types of colours and patterns that would have this effect. Tile mountain had lots of different inspirational photos on the website which instantly helped us to find the right tiles for our feature wall. Once we spotted the Toscana tiles we decided immediately that they were the right ones for us.

How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?

The downstairs WC took a total of three days to complete (including lighting, plastering etc). The main bathroom took seven days to complete from start to finish, whilst the en-suite took a fortnight to complete as we converted it into a wet room as we were tired of keeping the shower door clean. My partner is a carpenter and builder, so that enabled us to get the job completed during lockdown as we had plenty of time on our hands!

What part of the project was most difficult and why?

Overall the whole project ran smoothly and we didn’t really have any setbacks or difficulties. We did however inadvertently purchase a darker grout than we wanted and cleaning it from the freshly laid tiles was a bit of a nightmare nightmare. Next time we will read the label properly!

Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?

The bathrooms were the final project in our house but we intend on renovating a second house in the near future.

What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?

Firstly if you are planning to tile your bathrooms we recommend gaining as many inspirational photos or even create a mood board of ideas to ensure you find the best colour and pattern to suit before ordering any tiles. We recommend getting a professional tiler in unless you are competent in fitting tiles.

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?

We’d highly recommend Tile Mountain to anyone – not only is the choice of tiles huge, the quality is fantastic too. Delivery is quick and easy straight to your door and overall the service is great. Will definitely use Tile Mountain again in the future!
