Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes a closer look at some of the amazing renovation and redesign projects our customers undertake using products from the Tile Mountain range. This latest instalment sees us catching up with Cat and Simon Hoad of Reigate, who used our Mini Metro Matt White tiles to jazz up their second bathroom as part of a full-scale renovation of their new property.
What were the circumstances behind the project?
We bought a new house 18 months ago and have renovated the whole place. This, the second bathroom, was the last room to be done. It’s next to the childrens’ bedroom and so functions as the family bathroom. It is in the eaves of the house so headroom is restricted and there was previously a tiny shower in the only full height part of the room and a long counter with a sink in it that you had to bend over to use!
Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the room?
We wanted to keep the bathroom neutral so that we could use accessories to make the scheme grow with the children. It also means that it would appeal to everyone if we decided to sell.
What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?
We liked the twist on the metro tiles – we already had them in the kitchen and in the main bathroom so we were keen to do something a bit different and the small size and matt finish was a twist that we liked while still being subtle. Plus, the small size was good as the room is quite small too.
How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?
The whole project took a few weeks but we did most of the work ourselves. The tiling (floor and two walls) was a full very long day’s work for a professional. We did the grouting ourselves the next day.
What part of the project was most difficult and why?
Choosing a bath which would fit in through the very narrow door! And finding a sink that would fit but was still substantial enough to be serviceable.
Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?
No more decorating coming up as this was the last room in a very, very, long project!
What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?
I like taking screenshots of what I want to include and building a mood board to make sure it all sits well together – if it looks good piled up on a page then it will look good in real life too!
What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?
You can be comfortable that their 10% suggested excess is enough – we always add a bit more to be safe and then have loads left!
