Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes a closer look at some of the amazing renovation and redesign projects our customers undertake using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month’s instalment features Jonny Stocks of Leeds who updated his tired, old bathroom using our encaustic-style Hanoi Star Blue patterned floor tiles. We had a quick chat with him to find out more about his choice of tiles, the reasoning behind the renovation, and how the project went.
What were the circumstances behind the project?
The old style of the bathroom was very dated and ugly. We also felt because of the storage situation in there it could have been much bigger. We just wanted a refresh really.
Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the room?
Colour scheme was mainly determined by the colour of the tiles we purchased from Tile Mountain – everything else was white as you can see. The tiles are the real feature and everyone has commented on how good they look.
What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?
The are a traditional style tile however with a modern splash of colour and design. Combining these with modern fittings has produced an excellent result in terms of how it looks.
How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?
Because the tilers we hired were very busy the project took probably two months from start to finish. Whilst we did have professional tilers in, I would most likely do it myself next time. I fitted the bathroom/fittings and fixtures myself – it’s the first time I have done it and it has gone smoothly.
What part of the project was most difficult and why?
The toilet is wall hung. Sitting down on that toilet for the first time was a bit of a worry as I wasn’t sure it would hold my weight!
Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?
Yes, I’ll be doing a home cinema next.
What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?
Do it yourself – you are capable of anything. If it’s your only bathroom, perhaps pay for someone to get in and out in a few days.
What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?
