Customer Tile Style Profile: Praveen’s Open-Plan Kitchen Overhaul

Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes a closer look at some of the amazing renovation and redesign projects our customers undertake using products from the Tile Mountain range. The latest instalment of our monthly series features Dr Praveen Gupta of Merseyside, who embarked on a complete kitchen overhaul that utilises our Weathered Grey Matt Wall & Floor tiles in a very sleek and stylish manner. We spent a little time chatting about the epic project…

What were the circumstances behind the project?

It was a large project. There was a wall between the front room and kitchen which made the kitchen quite claustrophobic, so we decided to remove it and create an expansive space.

Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the room?

We decided on the colour scheme we wanted for the island that would be the centrepiece of the room first then matched the units. We then picked tiles to complement them.

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

The tiles we decided on needed to be porcelain as we wanted to install an underfloor heating system. Porcelain tiles are not only hardwearing but conduct heat better, so we opted for this material.

How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?

The entire project took around 12 weeks but the majority of this time was spent on structural alterations (walls being removed). The tiles were installed by the builders who undertook the whole project.

What part of the project was most difficult and why?

Removing the wall and putting in RSJs (rolled steel joists) to help support the exterior walls was a time consuming task, not to mention having to redo the whole plumbing for the underfloor heating.

Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?

Not in the immediate term, probably within the next 12 months or so though.

What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?

Triple the cost from original estimate and do enough research on the internet when choosing tiles, kitchen units etc. It’s also important to have a clear vision before starting. Oh, and be prepared to live without a kitchen for 12 weeks too!

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?

Tile Mountain offers very good value and service compared to local tile shops. We were also very impressed with the quick and hassle-free delivery.
