Half Term DIY: Quick Home Refresh Ideas for the Holidays

With the kids on half term and summer break nearly upon us, you may be thinking of using a few of those days to give the home a little refresh. There are plenty of things you can do in a day or two to update your home inside and out and these jobs can easily be DIY’d with a bit of preparation, research and the correct tools.

If you are considering a trip to the DIY store or you’ve been eyeing up the tiles and accessories at Tile Mountain, we thought we’d make a few suggestions.

The Tile Tidy Up

Give your garden a good tidy-up ready for the summer sunshine and rid your tiled paths and patio of mould or damp with a power sprayer and tile cleaner. Remove any weeds and mow the lawn. A few hours’ of work and you can reward yourself with a cold one in the sunshine later for a job well done.

Lay a Patio

A little more involved but you can easily create a small patio or seating area with tiles over the course of a couple of days. Zone your garden and consider where the sunshine hits during the day. Consider a small patio for the early morning sun to enjoy your cuppa or a spot to lounge in the afternoon and enjoy a good book while the kids busy themselves in the paddling pool.

Create a Path

If you don’t currently have any walkways in your garden, you might want to think about doing a little landscaping to wind your eye around your greenery. Paths can be practical but they can also create a stand out feature, allowing your eyes to take in the whole of the garden if done creatively.

Update Your Splashback

Consider giving your kitchen or bathroom a new focal point by replacing the tiles on your splashback. Add some colour or use one of the newest trends for patterned wall tiles to create a little wow-factor. Depending upon the condition of your kitchen or bathroom, this DIY task could take as little as a few hours of work.

Make a Great First Impression

Is your current flooring looking a little worse for wear? Consider laying new tiles in the entryway of your home to create a great first impression. Tiles are much more hard-wearing and resistant to stains, scuffs or moisture and make cleaning up of muddy shoes and paw prints a doddle.

Update Your Mudroom

Give your mudroom a new look by using tiles on both the floors and walls to make cleanup a cinch. Dog owner? Consider adding the latest trend for a dog washing station within the space. This job may take a bit longer but is sure to add some value to a much-needed space.

Refresh Your Bathroom

Is your bathroom looking a bit grubby? If you are not ready for a full redesign of the space, considering regrouting the tiles and resealing your bath or shower for an instant update.
