It’s that time of year again when the nights are drawing in, the thermostat wakes from its slumber, and the cable-knit jumpers come out. Whilst most of us will be adapting our wardrobes and diets to suit the season, our interiors largely stay unchanged. However, if a more cosy vibe is what you’re looking for this autumn/winter then we’ve got some fantastic style suggestions right here…
Winterize
Tiled walls and floors in a living space can look warm and inviting – especially if glowing russet and gold colours and tones are used. We love our Anfora tiles in warming autumnal tones, perfectly setting the scene for a cosy room scheme. Just add underfloor heating and some knitted throws to wrap up in for ultimate warmth. Using the same tiles for both wall and floor adds a sense of continuity to the design scheme, and literally acts as a ‘backdrop’ to wall accessories, pictures and of course, modern and sleek items of furniture.
Getting Cosy
A tiled floor is the perfect base for a stove or wood burner, and you can choose a piece of slate or granite for a further feature base. Slate is a good choice, the dark colour disguises the unavoidable fallout when filling or raking out the stove! Always seek advice from the installer regarding suitable base materials, it will need to comply with Building Regulations. This is the Larchdale Wood Burner from ACR Stoves. It’s a 9kw output, so suitable for larger rooms, and can accommodate logs up to 50cm long.
Warming Options
If you fancy the idea of a stove, but can’t accommodate a solid fuel or log burner – perhaps for installation or cost reasons, consider an electric version instead. You get the same appealing look, but with instant heat at the touch of a switch. This is the NEO 3F Electric, also from ACR Stoves as before. The two side-panel windows make it distinctive and it can be switched on to look alight without any heat output, perfect for the summer months where you might just want the decorative effect. This handy bit of kit also won the Electric Appliance of the Year award at the Hearth & Home exhibition earlier this year. MORSØ is a name well known for its design-led stoves and fire accessories; we love these Ellipse Fire Tools – as well as looking rather stylish they are extremely practical. The set would make rather a fabulous Xmas present for anyone you know who struggles to tame their stove surroundings – the set comprises a brush, shovel and poker/blowpipe and of course the bucket itself. We’re also really rather fond of the brand’s latest wood burning stove – the MORSØ 6612 with its double glass doors and 5kw output.
Contrast with Copper
In the market for a new bathroom? If so, you will have already noticed that red gold, warm gold, and copper are the latest colours for fittings (with both nickel and black becoming stylish and popular too!). Super Snuggly
Add instant warmth, both visually and in reality, with a scattering of sheepskin rugs. Don’t just banish them to the floor though, try on the back of the sofa or on a bench seat to add more warmth and texture to a room scheme.

Seasonal Inspirations
Is it too early to start adding a hint of Christmas to your décor in November? Well it’s not too early to start planning – despite the overwhelming presence of Christmas ideas in the shops, we think Xmas style in the home can kick off from 1 December onwards! Whatever your views, here are three rather nice ideas … from left, Three Birds Cushion from a selection at HomeSense. Centre, a lovely choice of pinky-red Tuileries and Pinstripe fabrics in Tearose from ILIV. We’re describing this wreath as ‘wintry’ rather than Christmassy, so it’s perfectly ok to use it from November onwards in our opinion! It’s the Fruits & Flowers Floral Wreath from John Lewis.
Take A Seat

Squish Up
A one-and-a-half seat sofa is a good idea – either if your home is very large and there is space for extravagantly over-sized chairs, or if it’s on the small side and you need to downside individual pieces accordingly. The Grosvenor 1.5 from Saxon is a classic design, beautifully updated.
