Customer Tile Style Profile: Julie’s Exterior Revamp Project

Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes an in-depth look at some of the fantastic renovation and redesign projects our customers complete using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month’s edition features Julie Maddison of Retford who used our Haven Creek Grey Garden Mosaic tiles to completely revamp the exterior patio area of her home – we caught up with her to chat about the project.

What were the circumstances behind the project?

The garden project was part of the renovation of a house we bought.

Was your choice of decor and colour style influenced by the tiles you chose or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you had chosen for the rest of the scheme?

We chose the tiles based on a Mediterranean look. We love travelling and one day hope to move abroad. In the meantime the patio area is our escape to a Mediterranean feel. Mission accomplished as family and friends all say they feel like they are abroad when sat there.

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

The amount of positive comments from family and friends made us realise we made the right choice.

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

The project took about four weeks to complete. Unfortunately we started just before the terrible floods, then ran into lockdown. The time span was over six months from start to finish but it was so worth it.

What part of the project was most difficult and why?

The most difficult part was digging all the old patio up! There was lots of hours of hard work from my husband and I. No professionals, just a very talented husband.

Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?

Thankfully, the entire renovation of this property is now complete after five years!

What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?

Because the tiles are situated outside I would definitely recommend laying them on a slight slope for drainage. We did this so the rain water then drains into a hole in the corner of the wall that my husband put in. Had we not done this a huge puddle would have formed each time it rained. We laid directly on concrete and would definitely recommend doing the same – it makes everything so much easier!

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?

I would definitely recommend Tile Mountain. The website works out how much grout and adhesive you will need before placing a tile order, which is a bonus. We literally shopped around for months and couldn’t find exactly what we wanted. Tile Mountain has so much choice, is very reasonably priced, and delivers very quickly for free. The staff I spoke to over the phone during the whole Covid-19 situation were very helpful and kept us up to date with what was going on with deliveries etc. We were extremely pleased with the service.

If you’d like to see your project featured in our monthly Customer Tile Style Profile, simply leave a review of the products you bought and share photos of your completed tiling project on our Facebook wall. If we use your photos on our website we’ll send you a crisp £20 Amazon voucher for your troubles and even make you internet famous for a bit in this very feature.
