Lighten Up: Summer Colour to Refresh Your Home

The top favourite colours for summer so far seem to be green, pink and yellow, all of which are perfect choices for bringing sunshine vibes into your home and for perking up the exterior too. Even a stretch of cheerful green grass (get the watering can and lawn feed out!) adds colour to outdoor spaces. As much as we love tiles, we also love the crisp contrast of newly laid outdoor slabs next to freshly mown lawn. Read on for more summer colour inspiration, from paint for inside and outside, to colourful tiles…

A Clean Background

Go for a cool grey background tile, such as our Botticino Outdoor Grey Porcelain slab, which is pale enough to be set up as a gorgeous backdrop to some colourful spring bedding plants and pots. Go on, you know you really want to go and queue up in the garden centre this weekend …

Easy Living & Dining

From a gorgeous selection of indoor-outdoor furniture from Habitat, this set will work all year round – choose it as your primary table and chair set for all-year-round use, in the knowledge that if you want to move the dinner party outdoors into the sunshine it can easily be lifted through to the patio. Running the same floor tiles through from indoors to out also extends the sense of space, light and greenery. Try our Icarus Grey Porcelain Outdoor Slabs for a streamlined look.

Colour Pops

It doesn’t take much to add a few pops of colour to a little balcony or tiny courtyard outdoor space. Go for colour with delicious ice-cream colours and a few carefully chosen drinks accessories for that evening tipple! Touches of greenery add the natural touch. The accessories here are from Matalan. For pale grey outdoor tiles, try our Rocastone Grey Outdoor Slabs – we’re expecting new stock very soon, but in the meantime, you can still go ahead and order a sample to get ahead of the game!

Three Colourful Ideas

First of all, add some sunshine yellow in the shape of the Lemons Wooden Director’s Chair from Habitat.  Secondly, the Lois Teal Medium Planter stands at 304mm tall and would height and colour to a plant display. And lastly, lounge around in the Geo Orange Wooden Deckchair, another treat from Habitat.

Get the Brushes Out!

Fancy a bit of creativity over the long weekend? If you would rather do something practical and useful than relaxing with a cold drink and a BBQ to look forward to (who actually are you, in that case!) why not update some garden furniture? This bench has been refreshed with Protek Woodstain in Royal Exterior finish in Eggshell Blue. It’s touch-dry in 90minutes and is a great choice for quick transformations. We think that paving could do with an update too…what about our Ardosia Black Antislip Porcelain tiles, designed to replicate concrete slabs.

Three More Colourful Ideas

More external colour suggestions from Sadolin and Sandtex. Firstly, Sadolin Superdec in Sandbank, opaque tinted satin wood protection, from Brewers. Next, it’s Sandtex 10-year Exterior Gloss in Racing Green, by Crown Paints. And lastly, another opaque tint, this is Sadolin Superdec in Peachy Punch, from Brewers.

Inspiration Corner

Our Village Teal Wall Tiles have been flying out of the warehouse, but worry not, more stock is on its way any day now, and in the meantime, samples can be ordered by clicking on the Full Size Sample button on the product page. This soft bluey-green-teal is a very satisfying choice for a bathroom, it won’t date and can be teamed with other design elements to create beautiful schemes. Try black, gold or silver fittings for a contrast.

In The Pink

Add a splash of cheerful colour by painting just one wall, or even a section of a wall. We’re entranced by all shades of pink at the moment, and this one, Urban Outfitters 6am Sunrise is from the exclusive Urban Outfitters range for Coat Paints. It has a dense matt finish and best of all, peel-and-stick swatches are available.

More Colours

For high-performance opaque paint suitable for indoors and outdoors, take a look at the Thorndown low VOC range. Left is Rhyne Green, and right is Bullrush Green, a darker and more traditional shade. Rather lovely for mix and match outdoor furniture. Centre, we just had to bring you another look at the perfect pink tile that is our Village Rose Gold glossy ceramic tiles, available in two formats, 132mm x 132mm and 65mm x 200mm, for edgings, borders and perhaps even herringbone layouts.

And…Relax

If all this colour is beginning to feel a bit daunting, head towards a neutral scheme for your summer styling. These armchairs on the left are from the Corsica Lounging Set in Cream from John Lewis.
