Are you surveying the excess and over-decoration of the festive period? Are you secretly longing for some post-Christmas peace and simplicity? Well, if you’re already planning some new year renovations you’re in luck because we’re bringing you some pleasingly understated yet on-trend ideas for 2021…
Sleek Simplicity
Large format tiles are increasingly popular, and although accent colours may come and go (we’ll be looking at the curious Pantone Colour of the Year 2021 later), for a costly kitchen make-over it’s generally a good idea to keep it simple. The choice of grey and black cabinetry is a win-win, gold accents are genius, and the bar stools (similar are available from My-Furniture) add a great finishing touch that can be updated when another favourite colour comes along. Our Alaska White Gloss porcelain tiles are a timeless choice for this type of roomscape.
Traditional Inspiration
If you have a tiled kitchen splashback and would like a new look, then it’s a reasonably straightforward task to refresh the look with some new tiles – perhaps adding a new colour to a neutral scheme or toning down a bright scheme. There’s a renewed interest in rustic, hand-made aesthetics for tiles – beautifully illustrated here with our Village Cloud Wall Tiles; a gorgeous soft blue that is very suited to a traditionally-styled kitchen.
Focus on the Floor
Replacing floor tiles is an option – and can completely update a tired-looking bathroom or kitchen. It all depends on the sub-floor of course – don’t skimp on that stage. Take A Seat
This is such a perfect example of a simple kitchen update! Marvellous Marble
Luxury finishes are always on-trend, and although marble is correctly thought to be a luxurious choice, there are ceramic options which don’t cost the earth. Go for the Glow

Pantone’s Colours of the Year, Illuminating and Ultimate Grey, cater for many customer tastes with the colour combo working well for many schemes. Our yellow fabrics are already proving a hit this year with our Bumblebee clever velvet and new Burnished Yellow clever velvet being the most popular choice for 2020. Similar with our grey fabrics, where our annual sales are up compared to last year.
“For a grown-up scheme, yellow shades look especially great with greys, so if you have existing grey pieces, or perhaps grey walls, then why not give your room an update with pops of yellow? There’s no reason why you can’t go for a bigger, investment piece in a brighter colour. We’re huge fans of a yellow sofa here at Loaf and use this colour combo often in our photography and in our Shacks.
“Our best advice is to always opt more for lasting style and colour. To stand the test of time it doesn’t need to be trendy, but it should be stylish. Using statement colours are a great way to give a fresh take to a classic design but ensure you choose what you love, that’s well made and will still look great in five years’ time.” Oh, and we can’t resist suggesting that some stone effect tiles – our Stone Travertine Wall and Floor Tiles for example – would pair really well with this Slim Jim corduroy sofa.

Embrace The Trend
Large format tiles embrace the contemporary look, and using the same tiles (but perhaps a different format) for both walls and floors emphasises a luxury, seamless look. Here, the grout is white, but using one of our darker grouts would streamline things even further…
Outside Edge
As we’re all getting used to needing to socialise outdoors more often, we’re expecting many of our lovely customers to be embarking on outdoor projects. So here you are, just a little inspiration for 2021…why not kit out the terrace with some decorative screens and perhaps some of your super-competent DIYers could investigate building some outdoor sofas as well?
