Trend Watch: Big Marble Style

This month’s instalment of Trend Watch sees us taking a closer look at the huge trend for large-format marble effect tiles and how they can add a sense of space and elegance to a room renovation or outdoor project. So, if you’d like to get in on the big marble action then read on for some marble-ous interior inspo!

Magnificent Marble

As the weather is actually improving, many of us are getting serious about sorting out the outdoor space, so our call to action is “start planning your outdoor entertaining area now!’”. As we slowly return to ‘normal times’ there’s little doubt that many of us will want to continue using outdoor space as an extra room. For a very classic look that will compliment contemporary furniture and architecture, take a look at our Carrara Marble Look Outdoor Slab Tiles. Some feature strong diagonal patterning, so mix randomly before installation, lay them out on the ground to create a varied pattern effect. If you don’t fancy pertmananly fixing them with adhesive then have a read of our Installing Outdoor Slab Tiles Using Adjustable Support Pedestals  feature to learn more about a quick and easy alternative method of installation.

A Touch of Gloss

Create a luxury interior look with our Duomo Azul Polished Floor Tiles – these large format tiles measure a whopping 1200mm x 600mm, and will give a streamlined, seamless look to any floor. These tiles do need sealing after installation to maintain that glamorous, reflective look however – we always recommend MP90 Polished Porcelain Stone Sealer.

White Marble Grandeur

These tiles are Anderson White Lappato porcelain, designed with rectified edges so that the grout lines will be clean and accurate (and barely seen!). The latest inkjet printing technology used in their manufacture means that the design is an lifelike reproduction of Calacatta marble, complete with a polished glaze finish. So, if you’ve been dreaming of a marble-floored mansion, here’s where to start! (It’ll look just as good in a bathroom, cloakroom or hallway though).

Luxury Lifestyle

Continue with the marble look into the dining room – this is the Geneva Marble Ceramic extending dining table by Dwell, which is a six seater, or eight seater when extended. We love the contrast of the white table against a darker rug. Styling Tip: Contrasts, whether chairs/table or rug/table will define the space.

Marble, Marble, Everywhere…

Go for the full marbled effect all over the kitchen and dining space by choosing matching wall and floor tiles. These are our Invictus White Polished Porcelain tiles, used also for the splash back. These large formats measure 800mm x 800mm, and bring a striking element of pattern into an otherwise simply chosen kitchen colour scheme. For a future colour scheme update, different chairs or bar stools and a rug could add a different emphasis.

Multi-Functional Spaces & Patterns

We decided to have a look for other marble-style kitchen finishes to extend our Trend Watch theme…This stylish kitchen from Pronorm in Organic Onyx Grey and Oak Sepia combines cooking and living areas. It features spaciously planned prep and cooking zones combined with an adjoining dining table that will flex for a multitude of uses. Ample storage keeps the essentials close to hand but stowed out of sight, while the Marble Carrara laminate worksurfaces in 16mm and 100mm variants add luxe appeal to the scheme.

Drama-rama

Go for drama in a marbled scheme with the addition of a panel of marble mosaics – the two extremes of formats look great together – we love a contrast! Our Invictus White Polished Porcelain floor and wall tiles are 800mm x 800mm and team up well with the smaller format mosaics, which come in sheets of 300mm x 300mm. Create even more drama with bold black bathroom fittings and timber seats – try the Fiord Stool in Cedarwood by Riva 1920 at Heal’s.

Top Tables

Add a touch of marble to your interior schemes with marble-topped tables … these are ideal as side tables in the living room, as bedside tables or even in the bathroom. Left; Madison Side Table in green marble with black frame, Cult Furniture. Right; Mercer Nesting Tables in white marble with brushed brass frame, also Cult Furniture.

Marble Influences

For a darker marble-style look, try our Royal Dark Grey Polished Porcelain tiles, 600mm x 600mm for a clean, elegant background to a luxurious bath and gold-finish fittings. The design solution to dealing with a low sloping ceiling is excellent, keeping the tiles to the floor and walls only, creating a crisp demarcation line.

Spectacular Styling

Our Room White Polished marble effect porcelain tiles come in two large formats, 600mm x 600mm and 1200mm x 600mm, so they are an excellent choice for larger spaces (fewer grout lines you see!) such as entire walls and shower panels. We love the trending design details in this room, including wall-hung furniture, floor level windows and black fittings.

In Black & White

For a highly accurate replication of black (and cream, dark brown, and light grey) marble, look no further than our stunning Anubis Dark Grey Gloss Marble Effect Floor tiles. They are an absolute classic, and come in two formats, 447mm x 447mm and 316mm x 632mm. The shading and glossy finish to these ceramic wonders ensures that these affordable tiles will add a realistic look of luxury marble. Get your graph paper out and start planning a bathroom makeover now!
