Trend Watch: Intense Patterns & Plain Floors

We have been keeping a watchful eye on the interesting trend for very highly patterned wallpaper – often used as an intense and colourful focal point for an interior scheme, and then teamed with plain flooring. It’s a great formula. Pattern + plain = a totally on-trend solution to adding a wow-factor to your interiors. Remember, it’s best to avoid wallpaper in a small bathroom that is easily splashed, but it can easily be used as a feature in a larger bathroom or perhaps a small cloakroom. In this month’s Trend Watch we bring you some of our favourite patterns alongside some suggestions for suitable accompanying floor and wall tiles from our extensive ranges…

Danger Zone!

From the wonderfully named Floradactyl collection of wallpaper from BOBO1325 this design looks quite traditional at first glance – until it sinks in that it’s a repeat of dinosaurs. Choose it for a cheeky contrast in an otherwise sedate living room. Our suggestions for flooring would be either our Baltimore wood effect porcelain floor tiles, designed to look exactly like rustic timber, or our Huntsville Oak Luxury Vinyl Tiles, designed to replicate open grain oak.

Moody Blues

This mural is the Midnight Tropics Mural in Navy from I LOVE WALLPAPER, it’s dark and moody, and is a really bold choice for a living room or perhaps a bedroom. Such a strong colour needs some balance and contrast, so team it with light coloured upholstery and a pale floor for max impact. We would suggest our Portland Oak Luxury vinyl Tiles which are comfortable underfoot for both living and bedrooms (and they’re tough enough for kitchens and bathrooms and can be installed with our Underfloor Heating too!).

Soaking in Style

This glamorous wallpaper is Zellandine Moonlight by The Curious Department. It’s a complex combination of digitally printed geometric and floral motifs, with a pearlescent sheen. An excellent choice for a luxurious bathroom we think you’ll agree. Stay with the dark colour theme with dark wood effect flooring, perhaps our Tacora Brown Wood Effect Porcelain floor (and wall) tiles would fit the bill. For a dark solution in Luxury Vinyl Tiles, take a look at our Luxury Vinyl Flooring in Norfolk Walnut.

Summery Style

Yellow and mustard are cheerful shades, and used to great effect here, in combination with a black and white strip of florals, plus of course, the hummingbirds which have a touch of pink. Hummingbird Black White Mustard wallpaper by Lola Design is a clever digitally-printed choice for mid-century style room, as it’s both retro and classic. Team it with timber-style flooring, such as our Kanna Nogal Porcelain Floor Tiles, designed to replicated traditional parquet flooring.

Paired Up

Quirky Lets Make A Den wallpaper in Midnight Blue and Fox Orange, from Lust Home. Match it up with our Vivid Teal Gloss tiles for an interesting kitchen or bathroom.

For a slightly softer colour scheme, try our Fulham Sage Wall Tiles with a glossy finish, paired with a panel of  Ogata Kuren Wallpaper in Mint Green from Lust Home.

Midnight blue and black team well here, with an unexpected colour addition – a rich, rusty brown. Try Ogata Kuren Midnight Blue wallpaper, from Lust Home, as before, paired with Memphis Maroon Hex wall and floor tiles. Perhaps for a dining room or kitchen …

Marble Matters

These Marble Wallpaper Panels & Prints  by NAT MAKS are individually made, so each one isn’t just a ‘wallpaper’ it’s a bespoke piece of artwork, each handmade using the process of suminagashi – the Japanese meaning is ‘floating ink’. The colours flow and blend, and bespoke colour combinations will be discussed before ordering. We think an understated marble tile would be the perfect pairing with these patterns, such as our Pienza tiles, which are a replica of calcite marble, feature rectified edges for crisp grout lines, and come in a large 800mm x 800mm format.

And Finally…

This is the Tropical Green Cranes Mural from Wallsauce. It’s a cheerful choice for a bathroom, living room, bedroom, home study, family room … the list is endless. The restful green background adds a sense of peacefulness, despite the bright splashes of colour! We would suggest teaming it with some subtle white porcelain tiles, such as our Barbados White Marble Effect wall and Floor Tiles, available in an expansive 600mm x 600mm format.
