Trend Watch: Wood Finishes in the Bathroom

When once our bathrooms were cool and clinical with nothing but gleaming smooth surfaces as far as the eye could see, a new trend is emerging. The use of wood and faux wood finishes in the smallest room of our homes creates an inviting contrast to all those shiny surfaces. From antiques repurposed to vanities, to tiles that replicate the look of wooden floors, we’re increasingly bringing the textures of the great outdoors into our private sanctuaries.

There are so many ways to include the natural warmth of wood into your bathroom and this post will provide plenty of inspiration for welcoming this beautiful material to your next project.

Pattern Play

You can create that coveted spa-like finish in your bathroom with a playful chevron pattern and wood-effect flooring. Our Little Wood Blend Matt Tiles will easily create a similar look to the above and can be used on both your walls and your floors. You can also check out our full range of wood-effect floor tiles to create warmth in an easy-to-care-for natural finish in any bathroom.

To finish off the look, include textured accents in natural woven fabrics in baskets and pendant lighting, plenty of greenery and soft Hamman-style towels.

Touch of Glam

For subtle glamour, consider using wood finishes for your vanity unit which will contrast beautifully with brass hardware and a soft mix of natural material tiles. Coloured cement sinks and lozenge-style brass mirrors will bring in a more contemporary finish while more classic elements like marble-effect tiles laid in a herringbone pattern, small hex tiles in a soft neutral palette and stone flooring will create the perfect mix of glamour and style.

Why not combine our Venato Grey Marble Wall Tile, Quartz Stone White Mosaic Tiles and Pulpis Grey Stone Effect Tiles for a similar look in your own bathroom?

Natural Beauty

In our next example, the natural grain of the wood is brought in to soften the cooler backdrop of our Quartz Stone Grey Mosaic Tiles and once again, the use of brass here is also evident. Both the rustic finish of the wood and the warmer golden tones of the hardware soften the clean cool finish of the tiles, creating an inviting space to escape to. Even when using a neutral colour palette, layering your wood finish against other elements in this way adds additional interest to even the smallest spaces.

Rustic Revival

If you want to create the look of a gorgeously rustic retreat without having to relocate to a cabin in the woods, consider another version of our popular wood-effect tiles. The natural beauty of wood is realistically replicated and it’s easy to maintain the natural beauty when used on both walls and floors. Consider industrial style hardware, raw natural finishes and upcycled vintage furniture to finish off this perfectly imperfect style.

Accessorise with Wood

Finally, if you love the look of natural wood but a full remodel is out of the question for now, then consider simply adding some stylish wood accessories to your existing bathroom. Wood bath caddies, wood bath mats or even a small vintage wood bench next to the bathtub will add that beautiful natural grain to whatever style of bathroom you choose.
