Ultimate Combinations: Small Scale & Large Scale

This month’s instalment of Ultimate Combinations sees us taking a closer look at pairing large and small formats for striking schemes. From huge formats at 600mm x 1200mm, to more subtle formats that are designed to look like mosaics whilst having the convenience of quick installation, here are some little and large ideas for your latest projects…

Indoors-Outdoors

Bring outdoor style to your conservatory or glass kitchen extension with our Muralla Beige Brick Wall Tiles; in fact they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, so are also entirely suited to an outdoor terrace. Each tile is 285mm x 75mm, and there are several other colourways available too, see here. There are corner formats available to get that authentic brick look – perhaps for a chimney breast or an exterior garden wall. Team Muralla with large format Icarus Porcelain Slabs at 595mm x 595mm for a streamlined, creative look.

Calming Contrast

Another indoor-outdoor look that combines small format wall tiles with larger format floor tiles, this time in calming shades of grey. This is another look that would work equally well in a sunny conservatory or an outdoor terrace. Wall tiles are Ribera Grey Slate Effect, which are in a 560mm x 310mm interlocking format, with each tile having the appearance of a stack of six by three smaller tiles. Clever stuff! And here of course, they look very striking with our Carrara Marble Outdoor Slabs in porcelain.

Surface Sparkles

We think this combination is pretty fabulous, using our smaller format Sparkle Ice Grey Split Face Mosaic interlocking tiles for the fireplace wall and then adding our  Doblo Matt Black Porcelain floor tiles as a dramatic contrast. The Sparkle tiles are made from natural stone, with a high mineral content that provides the sparkle effect, catching the glint of firelight as well as sunshine on a sunny day.

Small Tiles, Larger Format

A colourful, intensely patterned tiled floor is a very good choice in a busy family home, and our Victoriana Blakeney Wall & Floor Tiles, shown here in the Marron colourway, are a very recent addition to our range. These ceramic tiles have been designed to look like traditional encaustic styles, with faux grout lines and an intricate mosaic effect. Each tile measures 316mm x 316mm – phew, so you can get an authentic mosaic effect with straightforward installation. Colour Up Close

The Victoriana Harrogate colourway, with its blue-grey detail, would be a good choice for a bathroom or cloakroom.

… And the Long View

And here’s what Victoriana Harrogate looks like from up above! Definitely a very interesting and colourful option for a family home.

Monochrome Options

If you’re not sure about adding colour, but want the intrigue of a small-scale, intense pattern, try Victoriana Oxford Wall & Floor Tiles, which is the classic black and white colourway – and it’s suited to outdoor use as well, perhaps as a path or porch steps; it has a high R10 anti-slip rating.

Understated Styling

Hexagonal tiles have become a great favourite with our clients, and this styling suggestion is a perfect example of our Little & Large Ultimate Combination theme! The smaller wall tiles are Hexagon Lustre White Decor Wall Tiles. Each tile measures 510mm x 265mm and has the appearance of three rows of five smaller hexagonal tiles. And to continue the hexagonal theme through to the flooring, take a look at our larger format Apollo Hexagon White porcelain tiles, which can be used for both walls and floors. Each measures 330mm x 285mm. For a eye-catching white oval bath, take a look at the Newham 1500mm Freestanding Bath available from our sister company Bathroom Mountain

Little Squares, Large Rectangles

This simple scheme has everything – the Ultimate Combination of Little and Large tiles, sleek styling, and at the same time, it’s perfectly practical. The smaller tiles, used for the upper border section, are our Inverno Grey Marble Effect Mosaic sheets, each of which measures 300mm x 300mm and consists of six rows of six little mosaic tiles on a mesh backing sheet. For instructions and help on installing mosaics, contact our experts here and a team member can either talk you through the process or answer any questions via our live chat or email. These mosaics can also be used on the floor, so could be a beautiful feature in a shower room or wet room. The larger tiles, 300mm x 600mm, are our Inverno Grey Marble Rectified Wall & Floor Tiles.

On the Larger Scale

And lastly, a look at one of our larger-scale tiles! These are our super-sized 600mm x 1200mm Lemmy Excalibur Grey Wall & Floor Tiles in porcelain. These have a very industrial chic finish, with a weather-beaten, concrete-like surface look – which nonetheless looks very suitable and luxurious in this setting.
