Can they be used indoors?
Our advice: They can in theory but some points to consider would be that they are double the thickness of a regular indoor tile. They also are quite textured to achieve a suitable anti-slip rating for an exterior tile which in turn will be more difficult to clean.
how durable are these tiles and are they slippery in rain?
Our advice: Being 20mm thick Porcelain these tiles are very durable. They also have a high slip rating of R11 to minimise the slip when the tiles are wet.
Can they be laid on exterior 18mm ply
Our advice: No. The tiles must be installed onto a cured concrete base. Alternatively, a hardcore base can be used provided the tiles are adhered using our Norcros Rock Tite System.
Hi can I use normal mortar mix instead of rock tite mortar? If not what is the difference please other than the guarantee.
Our advice: No, we would not recommend using a regular mortar. The reason being that regular mortar relies somewhat on the mix being absorbed into the slab to adhere, with Porcelain tiles being a very low porosity product no mortar will absorb into the slab tile. The adhesion will not be strong enough to stand up to any movement in the substrate or to allow any expansion or contraction during the winter months when the temperature drops. The mortar Norcros have designed is specifically designed for Porcelain tiles and provides a much higher grab.
