Great Tiles and Top Quality Customer Care
My third purchase of tiles from Tile mountain in 3 months for a building project. Quality of tiles is consistently good and the customer service experience is unparalleled. The free sample option is a great way to pick the right tile and shade before placing an order. Looking forward to my next order. A great selection to choose from.

Q : I have a compacted type1 sub base and plan to use a wet mortar bed - what primer/adhesive would I need to use on the underside of the slab?

Answers (1)
Advice

We would not recommend tiling on the top of the mortar bed, because the tiles would not last as the mortar bed is too high in moisture. We would suggest installing tiles on the top of the concrete instead.

Q : i want to put a sub base down 60mm depth well compacted as i need to level of my area concerned. can i then then use a mortar as base on top of the sub base to lay the tiles or will the mortar stain the tiles i don't want use sand base

Advice

We would recommend laying the tiles onto the mortar base once it has cured and adhering the tiles using Adesilex P4 SKU: 218220

Q : What gap needs to be left between these tiles? Can the gaps be bigger/smaller? How does this affect expansion?

Answers (1)
Advice

I’ll need some more information concerning the installation of these tiles before advising. Are you planning to install the tiles using pedestals or adhesive? If you are installing the tiles with pedestals the joining gaps will be very small as the pedestals buffer any impact. If its adhesive you’re using the typical space left is 5mm outdoors but it is possible to leave joints ranging from 3mm-20mm depending on the look you want to achieve. Regarding expansion I’m unsure what you’re referring to, could you elaborate.

Q : Will a normal handheld angle grinder cut these porcelain tiles, or would i need a more professional cutter please?

Answers (1)
Advice

We would recommend either a wet wheel cutter with a diamond tip blade or an angle grinder to cut through these slab tiles.
