  • Clean cuts allow edges to align tightly
  • Less dust and debris when cut

Have confidence that your job will last – resisting rot, swelling and warping when exposed to moisture – when you choose HardieBacker® 6 mm. It’s the water-resistant cement backerboard that works perfectly with all types of tile or natural stone flooring. HardieBacker® light, easy-to-cut, no-mesh board features our exclusive EZ Grid® recessed pattern, making installation even easier. Install it over an existing timber floor or in conjunction with underfloor heating to optimise heat efficiency. The slim-line 6 mm elevation prevents floor build up and minimizes the transition between floors. HardieBacker® 6 mm with MouldBlock Technology is the durable water and mould resistant alternative to plywood for tiling on floors. Just like HardieBacker® 12 mm, it has excellent adhesive properties, ensuring that whatever ceramic or stone tile you use, it will hold strong with applied weights of up to 100 kg/m².

Can l use a sealant to it to attach a shower tray?

logo

Our advice: We woudln't advise using a sealant as the only form of fixture.

Hi, I have just purchased some 6mm backerboard and have read conflicting advice on how to install it. Do I need to use any form of adhesive (or mesh tape) to install on T&G 18mm floorboards? At present I am only planning to use the 25mm backerboard screws I also purchased.

logo

Our advice: You can just use the screws; however, if you wished, you could use a small amount of adhesive as well.

Is it a good insulator, can I use it instead of thermal board for underfloor heating?

logo

Our advice: HardieBacker boards are suitable for underfloor heating. They should always be placed between the structural timber floor and the heating element.

Does the hardie backer need priming before adding tile adhesive?

logo

Our advice: No - these boards do not need priming.

Can these be used behind tiling a wall in a shower enclosure?

hi looking to install these on bathroom walls, all are brick (plastered) which adhesive is best to use and which size screws/washers are best to use? Thank You

logo

Our advice: We wouldn't recommend using adhesive, we would only recommend using screws. We recommend a minimum of 2” x 4” wood studs or 20-gauge metal studs, which must be straight, properly aligned and spaced a maximum of 16” on center
