A modern take on an ancient style, Black Slate Split-face Mosaic is wash with organic vibes yet somehow manages to envelop those in an ultra-modern form. Split Face mosaics are a great way to bring wall spaces to life thanks to their striking, randomised appearance. Consisting of natural slate strips cut to varying lengths, widths, and depths, these tiles really bring character to a room, regardless of where they’re installed.Constructed from natural slate, these tiles bring the aesthetics of split-face mosaics into a handy, easy to install single tile form factor, meaning that instilling your interiors with the same look as found in the most up-to-date bars, restaurants, and hotels, is easy. As these tiles are porous and do not require grouting, it’s advisable that this tile is not used in showers or areas exposed to direct water.  These tiles also require post-installation sealing - we recommend using Fila StonePlus.

Alot of cutting but worth it!

We used this on our porch, (not exposed to any rain). The tiles are good quality came damage free and on time. Fixed onto a dot dabbed tile backer board using grey flexible outdoor adhesive. You need to dry lay these first as there a natural product alot of them needed cutting and altered to give a gap free finish. We choose these as there a bigger tile than the usual “Z” shaped ones that are 4 rows tall. Ive had a few people stop and ask where we got them from so it must look good. The tiles gave the porch a more upmarket feel and know one else has done this in our area yet.

What makes the slate no good for outdoors?

Our advice: The reason is that the tile is produced in a way that usually for aesthetic reasons isn't grouted. For that reason the project wouldn't be water right, over time water will seep behind the tiles and gradually work away at the adhesive. There is also potential for the water that gets behind the tiles to freeze and expand causing the tiles to pop off the substrate.

Can these split face tiles be used outdoors??

Our advice: Thank you for your enquiry. We would not recommend these tiles for use outdoors. As these tiles are porous and do not require grouting, it’s advisable that this tile is not used anywhere that may come into contact with direct water. Many Thanks.
