Customer Tile Style Profile: Tami’s Bathroom Facelift

Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes an in-depth look at some of the fantastic renovation and redesign projects our customers complete using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month’s edition features Tami Curtis of Buntingford who used our Rombos Rustic Patterned and Rombos Rustic Cream Tiles tiles to revitalise a generic new-build bathroom. We caught up with her to chat about the project…

What were the circumstances behind the project?

We recently moved into a new build home and the bathroom had absolutely no personality,  (we were’nt given the option of choosing our tiles or any finishes). I also wanted to add a jacuzzi tub.

Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the room?

I spent five months choosing tiles after I had chosen all our bathroom finishes. I changed my mind about a hundred and one times before settling on these tiles though!

What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?

We needed tiles that had some personality – we wanted a contrast between the contemporary bathroom furniture I had chosen and the rustic finish of the Rombos tiles were exactly what we were looking for. Also, I did not want my bathroom to look like everyone else’s and so that influenced us in choosing the tiles we went for – they’re quite unique!

How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?

The actual installation took two weeks – we hired a professional company to do the renovation.

What part of the project was most difficult and why?

The most difficult part was waiting the two weeks during the project – it was a loud and dusty time!

Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?

Our home is a work in progress! I always have a project either in my mind or at the planning stage and then of course, the fun part…the execution!

What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?

You get what you pay for! We accepted several bids from plumbers who really did not have a clue (they had no projects we could look at to gauge their style). We decided to go with a very reputable contractor who had a great eye for design and detail. They were a godsend.  They were expensive, but their portfolio showed they were worth it. The details they called to our attention are part of why the bathroom looks so good. Because we plan to stay in our home for quite some time, short cuts were never part of the plan.

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?

We looked at other high end tile suppliers, they had beautiful tiles but their prices were really over the top. Every time we found a tile we liked, I always found it at Tile Mountain for much less. I also read a lot of reviews of other tile retailers and some had real horror stories relating to delivery. I am happy to say that the tiles that we bought were the best price out of two other suppliers for pretty much the same exact tile. Delivery was a dream – Tile Mountain dropped the pallet off right at the gate!
