Using Dulux Colour of the Year 2018: Heart Wood

Dulux has announced its highly anticipated Colour of the Year 2018 as Heart Wood, a welcoming warm neutral with a touch of heather as part of the brand’s industry acclaimed trend forecast, ColourFutures™. Following on from 2017’s COTY, Denim Drift, the versatile Heart Wood can create a range of moods, depending on what other colours you pair it with.

Dulux Colour of the Year 2018 Heart Wood

The team of experts forecast the colours and palettes that best reflect the way we want to live as we move into the new year. According to the Dulux team, the leading mood for 2018 is one of unpredictability and uncertainty and as life gets faster, there is a growing need to see our homes as a place of sanctuary and tranquillity. This has lead to the theme of ‘A Welcome Home’, and Heart Wood centres on harmony, slowing down and balance in our most precious of spaces.

“Dulux’s colour of the year for 2018, Heart Wood, is incredibly versatile, and connects beautifully with the accompanying trend palettes for the year ahead. Providing the comfort and reassurance we’re all seeking, it’s the perfect antidote to the mood of the moment – channelling a real sense of calm and warmth during such times of uncertainty. We can’t wait to see home across the globe transformed into true sanctuaries.”   Rebecca Williamson, Senior Colour and Design Expert.

This soft neutral is the perfect shade to use across your home. Inspired by the beautifully warm wood materials that are increasingly being used in interiors and architecture, there is a tendency towards warmer, light and dark shades of red alongside violet and pinkish woods. We take comfort from nature and wood is a popular material in uncertain times, and has cemented itself as an essential element for creating a welcoming environment.

The accompanying trend palettes combine various Dulux shades such as cocoa and ink blue to form a calming backdrop to create different looks for different moods you wish to create in your home. Let’s take a closer look…

The Comforting Home

Here we see grown-up luxury – warm wood and lots of natural materials like leather, silk, and velvet combine to create a tactile and relaxed space. Combine warm earthy tones (which comfort the senses) with clay and blush pink to calm the mind and soothe the senses. The resulting mix is a perfect retreat from the noise of the outside world, a haven to escape to and a sanctuary to find balance.

The Inviting Home

Soft pastels framed by graphic borders of coal and dark blue encourage a clear-headed approach to life whilst relaxed neutrals and sea-green support our need for connections. This look is all about comfort and convenience. This particular aesthetic is effortless and everything has its purpose, from a large dining table where groups of friends can come together, to giant sofas perfect for family time.

The Playful Home

If you are looking to instil a sense of possibility and adventure in your home, then this trend is the perfect match with the Colour of the Year. Using pops of colour to create focal points and foliage to create vitality, the look is inspired by nature where rich and yellow-toned greens work beautifully alongside golden shades to encourage creativity and spark the senses.
