Euro 2020: Host Nation Influences for Euro-Style Interiors

Of course, we couldn’t let the Euros pass us by without squeezing in some references to style and interior design links between the host nations and our fabulous tile ranges. So, before you settle in for a month or so of footballing heaven/avoiding the TV at all costs (delete as applicable!) we’re bringing you a rundown of some of our favourite design ideas originating from some of the cities of the Euro 2020 host nations featuring ideas from Italy, England, Spain, Denmark, and Holland.

Illusions of Grandeur

We’re starting off with a nod to modern kitchen design, UK-style. This kitchen is sparse and simple, with the mandatory view of the garden via full-width folding/sliding doors. And to add a hint of Italian style, look at our fabulous Place White Marble Effect Floor Tiles, constructed from durable porcelain and designed to replicate authentic Calacatta marble. Available in two size variants and matt and polished finishes, these tiles feature rectified edges for crisp, clean, barely-visible grout lines – perfect for large expanses.

English Style

For a very traditional English look, get some inspiration from the English Revival Collection of Shaker kitchens from Mereway Kitchens & Bathrooms. Shown here in Caffe Latte, the cabinetry is hand-finished, with an In-Frame construction, providing a typically English look. Plain white tiles add a simple finishing touch – try our Craquele White wall tiles, with a slightly rustic look and crackled glaze to get that English country-house look. Ahh…half time orange, anyone!

Stove Top Additions

Don’t hit the beers too soon when it all kicks off, get a pick-me-up from an espresso instead, Italian style. We love a stove-top brew, try the La Cafetiere Espresso Maker 6 Cup in red from Kitchencraft.

Forza Azzuri!

We’re impressed by the sleek style of this bathroom, it has a touch of contemporary Italian influence, reminding us of smart modern hotels in Rome or Naples. The Chic Blue Decor tiles are positioned horizontally, emphasizing the proportions of the room. Each tile measures 900mm x 300mm, has a textured finish and is available in Blue, Blanco and Grey, with matching Chic Blanco Matt tiles used for the walk-in shower and the opposite wall.

Star Struck

Our Hanoi Star Blue Floor Tiles have a distinct Spanish influence (despite their name! Offering a modern porcelain interpretation of traditional Spanish encaustic tiles, these look wonderful as the centrepiece of a large floor space or as a busy, patterned floor for a balcony. Just right with an outside TV screen and a chilled aperitif to accompany you as you marvel at hours of top-level football!

If Carlsberg Did Armchairs…

The Charlie Armchair in grey wool fabric with slatted oak back and seat is from Swoon Editions and has that unmistakable mid-century Danish influence. For expert info and an interesting look at Danish chair design, read about the originals… The 10 Danish Chairs Everyone Should Know in Urbis Magazine.

Dane Wow-ers

Designer Arne Jacobson created the Egg Chair in 1958, for a Copenhagen hotel. Today, the Egg Chair has many interpretations, but originals can still be found on sites such as 1st DIBS – be prepared to wait till your perfect choice comes up! But in the meantime, Pash Classics have beautiful replicas, such as this orange cashmere version, which has a matching ottoman/footstool.

Designed in Denmark

Danish brand BoConcept has a stunning range of furniture, beds, accessories and outdoor furniture, and is always worth a visit if you’re near a store (branches include Birmingham, Glasgow, York and London). This is the Alicante Extending Table, teamed here with Vienna Swivel Chairs.

Girl With A…

Not that there’s much travelling going on at the moment, but if you were in Amsterdam for the football and you did have time to squeeze in a dash to The Hague, perhaps try and visit the Maurithuis Museum where you will be able to see the original Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.  Our picture here is a lighthearted version from The French Bedroom Company – it’s the Girl with a Pearl Bubble by Brighton artist Ant Fox.

Going Dutch

Naturally, we can’t resist bringing you some Old Style Dutch Pots, available from The House of Eden which are suited to both indoor and outdoor use and which would definitely look good teamed with our Skyros Delft Blue Wall & Floor Tiles

Scandinavian Style

Yes, Scandinavia is three countries, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and as Denmark is one of the host nations this is a jolly good reason to include this gorgeous Scandinavian Style kitchen from Brayer Design. The white handleless cabinets are paired with pure white work surfaces and a concrete floor – and of course, accessorised with stylish wood stools and dining chairs. Get a similar look to this concrete floor with our Concrete Grey Matt Floor Tiles which are actually made from porcelain, designed to look exactly like concrete flooring – and they’re manufactured in Italy, too.

Will you be getting in to the Euro spirit and including any of the above styles into your next renovation project? Or will you be too busy watching endless hours of top international football? Either way, we’d love to see your photos – hare your pics with us over on Twitter tagging @TileMountainUK or on Instagram!
