Hex Appeal: Hexagonal Tile Style Inspiration

Angular, symmetrical and repetitive patterns seem to be everywhere at the moment, with hexagons being a particular favourite. So, we thought we would round up a few of our own hexagonal tile designs (along with some super-hexy accessories) to bring you a bit of interior-inspo hex appeal…

Free-Flowing Inspo

We love the way these hexagons meander throughout this shower room. The tiles are a mix of our plain white Apollo Hexagon tiles and our black and white intricately patterned Apollo Grazia Hexagon Decor tiles. The patterns are complex, using circles, stars, hexagons, squiggles and criss-cross motifs, within the template of a hexagonal tile shape! Needless to say, a ‘random’ look still needs planning, so get the plain paper out and do a bit of pencil planning first; and before installing your tiles it’s a good idea to ‘dry lay’ everything out on the floor first so you’re absolutely sure you’re getting the look you want before fixing them down.

Angles & Curves

For a less busy look, we like these subtle Stone Cut Hexagon Grey porcelain wall and floor tiles, available in several grey-beige shades, and designed to have the appearance of natural stone. They’re suitable for walls and floors, and the angular shapes work really well as a contrast to some curvy accessories – such as a circular mirror and a retro-style radio. Used width-wise these tiles would emphasise the width of a narrow room, and used vertically, look fabulous in a shower enclosure.

Small-Scale Achievements

Our Black & White Hexagon Mosaics are absolute classics, we’ve seen them used in Deco-style bathrooms, for recessed shelves within shower enclosures, as counter-tops, and of course, as kitchen splashbacks. The thing about ceramic mosaics is that they are very straightforward to install – supplied on mesh backing sheets (there are 12 per square metre), so can be used as borders and trims too, and easily trimmed for smaller or irregular-shaped areas (such as upstands or alcoves).

It’s great when a theme comes together. From left: the A by Amara Hexagonal Wine Rack which of course is perfect for the kitchen, but thinking laterally it could also sit neatly in a bathroom too – stacked up with rolled up hand towels and face clothes. Or perhaps a few sponges (or it could just sit there and look pretty!). Centre: If you’re looking for simple and stylish lighting that’s absolutely on-trend, try the Hexagon Gold Pendant Light from The French Bedroom Company. We’re imagining a row of three above a kitchen island, or perhaps singly above a pair of bedside tables. Right: Wow, this item is so perfect for a hexagonal themed bathroom it deserves a round of applause! It’s the Black Round Metal Wall Shelf from Melody Maison…can you imagine how amazing this would look against a wall of our Hexagon Black & White Mosaics?!

Mixing It Up

Of course, too many patterns can be too much of a good thing, so we wanted to point out here how a striking wall layout (Apollo Hexagon in White) can look dramatic and amazing on a single wall and can be perfectly balanced by using a more subtle and randomly patterned design for the floor. Such as our Ofelia Terrazzo  porcelain floor tiles – with rectified edges for a clean, precise look. Oh, and can we also point out the perfect positioning of that push-flush button on the wall – beautifully centred, and well worth any extra layout-planning it incurred!

Design Details

Here’s a closer view of our Andalucia hexagons. There are 14.3 tiles per square metre – so be sure to work out your order to the nearest square metre – and the tiles are supplied in boxes of 14 tiles – each containing a random selection of a possible 24 ink-jet printed surface designs. Each tile is 330mm x 285mm. We love the way these tiles are contemporary, colourful, retro, and traditional all at the same time!

Strong Shapes

Keep it simple with the plain Black, Grey or White porcelain satin finish hexagon tiles from our Apollo collection. Plain tiles are a great way of creating a consistent colour scheme throughout a room, and the colour variations can add focus and definition in a particular area. Suitable for walls and floors.

Happy Hexagons

Ok, so imagine the new bathroom (or kitchen) with some fantastic hexagonal tiles, possibly in black or white. Plus some white furniture and fittings. Add a bit of colour and texture with some Roman blinds, such as Multi Colour Faded Hexagon JO-193, or cushions in Multi Colour Geometric Hexagon in JO 195, and the same fabric is shown again to scale, suitable for blinds, curtains and upholstery. It’s conjures up such a great image doesn’t it?

Lighting Up Time

Running with the hexagonal theme we had to mention these Hexagon Light Panels by Nanoleaf, which can be configured to your own designs. Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagons combine smart tech, ultra-thin design and modular LED lighting panels to transform rooms into interactive, musically-synced ambient spaces. Just the thing to update your lockdown rooms!
