Making An Entrance: Fabulous Tile Ideas for Porches & Hallways

First impressions matter – we all want our homes to look good when guests first step through the front door. If you’re on the lookout for some fabulous tile ideas for getting the porch, hallway, and entrance to your home looking good then you’re in the right place…

A Traditional Approach

Go for a traditional approach for the front path, step and onwards through to the hall with our Victoria Red Black Chequer Mosaic porcelain tiles. Suitable for outdoors and indoors, these are in traditional colourways (white is also available), and there’s a matching  Victoria Red Black Corner set as well as a Victoria Red Black Border set to make it easy to  work out the logistics of creating steps, paths and borders.

Gorgeous in Grey

For a very classic, almost background, look, try Mr Jones Grey Pattern Wall and Floor tiles in porcelain. These tiles have a matt finish and are also available in Cream and Azure Blue. Grey is a good choice for a low-key look that still makes an impact, and which can be accessorised with other colour choices in the future – such as a plain, bright rug, runner or stair carpet. Mr Jones tiles are also perfectly suitable for use with underfloor heating (UFH), take a look at our underfloor heating range for available options.

Background Plains

Our Madeira Toscana Polished Wood Effect Floor Tile in porcelain is a replication of solid hardwood – but in porcelain, which is tough, durable, and super-easy to keep clean – just what’s needed for a family hallway! Madeira has a semi-polished finish, and rectified edges so the grout lines will be crisp and clear, perfect for a neat look. And naturally, these porcelain planks are ideal for use with underfloor heating, and the whole look can be lifted with a colourful rug if you want to add pattern.

Flower Power

A hall or porch can be a useful place for quirky accessories, brightening up a dull corner. This is the Black Gold Round Metal Flower Mirror from Audenza, which we think would look rather swish paired with our Madeira Toscana floor tiles as mentioned above.

Vintage Choice

The slightly worn, vintage-chic look of our Clay Seal Patterned Floor ceramic tiles have the appearance of four smaller tiles, are designed to look like traditional encaustic tiles, and also come in Silver, Sand, and Blossom variants, as well as wall tile options. We love the subtle colours, which means these tiles can be paired with bolder shades for furnishings (such as the velvet bench seen in the pic) or work equally well with neutrals like natural stone and timber shades. Once again they’re tough and hardwearing – and perfectly suited to the rough and tumble of a busy family home.

Hall Solutions

The hall ideally needs a little bit of storage for gloves/hats/scarves, plus a surface for keys/wallets, plus some hooks above for the rest of the family’s stuff – you can never actually have too many coat hooks! Anyway, we rather like the Hercules Rustic Solid Oak Console Table by Oakfurnitureland, it ticks all the boxes – and will look fab with a nice smooth floor, such as our Concrete porcelain tiles.

Geometry Rules

Go for a geometric look with our encaustic-style Porto porcelain tiles, with a grey shaded pattern. Each measures 600x600mm and has a matt finish.

Cubic Space

Our Hanoi Cube Grey Floor Tiles create a three-dimensional optical illusion – and the result is a very contemporary and stylish look for a hallway, porch and/or step. In porcelain with a matt finish and three matching plain colours available in Black, Grey, and White.

Decorative Details

Smaller tiles can be effective in smaller space, these tiles are 200mm x 200mm and four will make up the larger motif. In shades of darker grey and white, these tiles are very reminiscent of Victorian encaustic designs.

On the Shelf

Yes, it’s another suggestion for storage options for the hallway. This time, the Rex shelving unit will soon be available from Atkin & Thyme, and is just one of an excellent range of storage ideas that are just the right proportions for a hallway.

Multi-Pendant Focus

Once the hallway flooring and furniture is sorted out, cast your eyes upwards to perhaps have a little review of the lighting. A striking pendant will definitely put the focus on the hallway – and if your staircase configuration doesn’t allow such a dramatic look, there are numerous other options in the Aurelia collection. This is the Dar Aurelian 15 Light Cluster Ceiling Pendant in Black and Chrome, available from Online Lighting

Lots of advantages for hallways here, with our  Reclaimed Dark Oak Nailed Wood Effect porcelain planks – they will withstand as many wet and muddy footprints as you like, plus bicycles being wheeled through, and will look as good as new after a quick mop.
