Things to do Over the Christmas Holidays

Tiling the living room can feel intimidating to most. It’s a big commitment and you run the risk of your living room space feeling cold and dull, instead of cosy and warm like it should. We’re here to guide you through choosing the perfect tile for your living room space and how the benefits can often outweigh the negatives! Our tiles are sure to last your living room much longer than options like carpet or laminate, so you can be sure to get the most out of the money you invest into the room.

Before you get started, decide what area you’re tiling and research the best tile for the job. For example, if it’s the floor you’re looking to tile, find a tile with an appropriate thickness and, if needed, anti-slip properties. Or, if you’re looking to tile the fireplace area, ensure the tile can withstand the heat from your fireplace, and research the best way of sealing to ensure they last years and years. Get in touch with our helpful team if you need further advice on this.

When shopping for the tiles to go into your living room, ensure you know what design and style you’re aiming for. There are so many different types of tiles on the market, in different shades, shapes, designs and materials, so be sure you know your aim before you set off! If you are yet to decide on what style you’re looking for and are nervous about making the commitment straight away, be sure to order a few samples so you can see the tile for yourself, and work from there.

Sometimes its best to keep a space in line with neutral shades and tones, to ensure it remains relaxing. Shades like white, beige, grey and brown are always a safe option when looking to implement neutrals, and are sure to create the ultimate tranquil space in your living room. We’ve made use of Alamo Mocha Floor Tiles for this example, showcasing a beautifully mid tone brown that brings the whole space together nicely, to create the living room of dreams.

4 – Keep Things Warm with Wood Flooring

A certain way to ensure your living room keeps its warm and cosy nature is to utilise wood, or wood effect, flooring. it’s common to use wood effect flooring throughout a living room space, but people often opt for laminate or vinyl flooring, which often needs replacing much quicker than tiles or real wood floors. We have a selection of real wood flooring on offer, which is certain to create the desired soothing look while offering outstanding longevity. Another option, if you’re on a tighter budget, is tiles with a wood effect design. These Reclaimed Dark Oak Nailed Wood Effect Floor Tiles are a porcelain tile, making them durable and perfect for a living space.

Tiles like our Chester Rustic Floor Tiles are a great option for a living room with their muted neutral shades and geometric design. They create an encaustic effect, which replicates true Victorian tiles, creating a truly traditional and homely atmospher across any room, especially the living room.

7 – Inject Vibrancy With Coloured Tiles

The kids have broken up from school for Christmas, and it’s feeling more and more festive as the days go on, but how do you keep them entertained until the big day arrives? We’ve put together a list of fun things to do with the kids in the lead-up to Christmas!

1 – Post a Letter to Santa

First up is posting a letter to the one and only Santa. This is a must amongst many households at Christmas and is a true festive tradition. Dig out your craft supplies and the fancy pens and let the kids write a letter to Santa. This could be a list of what they’re wishing for, questions they have for Santa, or a simple hello! Address it to the North Pole and post it away, ready for Christmas.

2 – Get a Picture With Santa

Before the festive period is over, book yourself and your kids to go and meet Santa! This is a truly magical experience for children, where they can sit on Santa’s knee and tell him what they’re wishing for! Do your research and find somewhere local that has a Santa and make the magic happen!

3 – Prepare Milk and Cookies for Santa

A tradition on Christmas eve, making up a plate of milk and cookies for Santa to eat as he drops everyone’s presents off. Find some of your favourite cookies and a nice plate, with a glass of milk alongside and before the kids go to bed on Christmas eve, leave them somewhere Santa is likely to see them. Maybe by the fireplace or the front door! Once the kids are in bed, Santa (wink wink) can nibble on the cookies and drink the milk ready for the morning! Don’t forget a carrot for Rudolph and the crew!

4 – Make Some Paper Snowflakes

This is an incredibly easy craft that anyone can get involved in, resulting in a beautiful decoration for across the home. Start with a square piece of paper and fold it diagonally to form a triangle. Fold this triangle in half again so the pointed corners meet. Fold the triangle into thirds, overlapping the corners over the base of the triangle. Do the same on the other side. Trim the overlapped pieces at the bottom to make a pointy triangle. Supervising the little ones, cut fun shapes out of your triangle, and open the paper to reveal a beautiful snowflake.

5 – Have a Christmas Movie Night

There’s no better feeling than getting the whole family snuggled up together on the sofa with a festive film on the TV. Drag out the cosy blankets and get warm on the sofa with some of your favourite snacks, picking out your families favourite Christmas film to watch. Why not treat the kids to some festive hot chocolate too, to make it extra special?

6 – Do a Tour of Your Local Christmas Lights

This can be a really magical experience for the kids. Pile everyone in the car, or get your coats and walking shoes on, and do a tour of your town in the dark, looking at all the pretty Christmas lights everyone puts up on their house at Christmas time. It gets dark pretty early at this time of year, so you don’t have to worry about keeping everyone out too late.
