Transform your Kitchen with These Budget Kitchen Refresh Ideas

If you’re looking to give your space a new lease of life but don’t quite have the budget for a full redesign, look no further than our list of budget kitchen refresh ideas. Whether it’s a quick spruce up of your accessories or a complete repaint of the cupboards and cabinets, we have something to suit every scale of project. A simple refresh can give your space a whole new personality, and create a vibe that suits your style as it changes.

1 – Replace Your Metal Hardware

A super simple way of transforming your kitchen is by replacing the metal hardware that you use throughout the space. This includes things like cupboard handles, door handles, taps etc. This easy trick makes your kitchen feel like a whole new space, as it offers the opportunity to switch up the style you’re looking for. In our example we’ve used a mix of handles for the cupboard doors, to show the variation that certain styles can create in a space. The taps match the style of the handles perfectly, with a traditional look creating that country kitchen vibe.

2 – Install Floating Shelves

Floating shelves create a stylish way of storing things like plates and mugs in your kitchen while also allowing you to introduce accessories to personalise your space. They can also act as a visual partition between your splashback and the space above, which creates a sense of depth and detail. Our kitchen uses a dark wood floating shelf to separate the black tiles from the grey stone effect tiles above, which acts as a beautiful break in the two different colours and textures. The accessories used add character to the space, while also being purposeful for the kitchen.

3- Give Your Kitchen a Good Clean

This one sounds simple, but a deep and thorough clean can really help in transforming your space. Start from the top of the space and work your way down. By this we mean clear out all your overhead cupboards first, getting rid of stuff you no longer use or need, then give them a good scrub down with soap and water. Clear out the rest of your cupboards, giving them the same scrub down as before. Work across your worksurfaces and clear them, using antibacterial spray to wipe them down and leave them sparkling. Once your cupboards and worktops are clean and clear, get to scrubbing your floors, with a good old mop and bucket.

4- Hang Objects From The Walls

By this, we don’t necessarily mean pictures and frames, although these can work wonders for transforming your space. Aside from these, hanging your utensils can be a great way of accessorising the area, while also being practical. Hanging things like utensils and mugs adds depth to your space, and ensures they’re at easy access at all times. We’ve attached a hanging rail to our wall, storing mugs and utensils beautifully and seamlessly, but a similar effect can be created with a few easy nails in the walls.

5- Switch Up Your Colour Scheme

This can be as big or as little of a change as you’d like. From simply switching out the tea towels you’re currently using to completely repainting the walls in the space, the options are endless and will determine how much of a difference there is. If you’re someone that is always desperate to switch the colour scheme up, look into tiling with neutral tiles when it next comes to it, to ensure the tiles will compliment any style you go for. Our example is a space that can easily transform in terms of colour, with white and grey tiles letting the colour do the talking.

6- Paint Your Cabinets

Similar to our last point, painting the cabinets (whether it be the same colour for a touch up or a completely new one) can be perfect for introducing a new lease of life to your space. If your cabinets are looking a bit grubby and stained and a scrub isn’t doing the job, colour match a wood paint to the original colour of your cabinets and give them a once over with the paint brush. This can make them look and feel as good as new! If you’re feeling something a bit different, go crazy! Choosing the colour of your kitchen cabinets should reflect your personality and the type of style you’re aiming for.

7- Introduce New Textures Throughout

A top styling tip will always be to ensure you introduce plenty of texture throughout your space, to create depth and character. This can be so easy to do, depending on how far you’re looking to take it. Woods and stones are always trendy pieces, whether they’re introduced in the form of a plant pot or as tiles for the splashback. They’re also perfect for ensuring your design remains close to nature. Our kitchen welcomes various textures, from decor glass in the partition, to stone across the walls and floors. The result is a modern space packed with detail.

8- Welcome New Lighting

A simple switch-up of your lighting can make a world of difference. If you have a dull and lifeless space that lacks vibrancy, this is your opportunity to brighten it up and bring it back to life. Certain light bulbs can achieve different atmospheres, with cool lights and warm lights equally easy to access. The lamp shade also plays a massive part in the styling of the area, perfect for letting your personality shine… literally. There are a wide variety of lamp shades on the market today, so be sure to explore your options to find the perfect match!
