Key Features

  • Easy to apply with brush or roller

  • Low VOC

  • Water based

  • Drying time 2 hours

  • For use on absorbent substrates such as screed, plasterboard

  • Covers up to 10m2 when applied neat and up to 30m2 when diluted

Mapei Primer G is a water-based dispersion of special synthetic resins which, once applied to any surface, dry to form a flexible, compact, shiny coating to consolidate the surface. Primer G also improves the adhesion of smoothing compounds, paint, wallpaper adhesive, tile adhesives and mortar for renders. Primer G applied to the surface of gypsum or cement prevents any chemical reaction between sulphates and the cement alluminates of the tile adhesive which, in the presence of moisture, leads to the formation of the salt '’ettringite’ the accumulation of which causes tiles to break away from gypsum substrates.

Q : I'm going to have bathroom walls plastered + skimmed before tiling. When should this primer be applied? Would it be applied to the fresh plaster (once dry) and then adhesive + tiles afterwards?

Answers (1)
Advice

The Primer G can be applied once the plaster has dried. The Primer G 1KG covers up to 10m2 when applied neat and up to 30m2 when diluted. The tiles can be installed with adhesive and grout 2-3hrs after the application of the primer.

Q : Hi can I use this product to seal wbp ply on my bathroom floor prior to tiling it?

Answers (1)
Advice

Primer G 5kg (SKU 020105) can be used to prime plywood, however, this is not necessary as plywood would not generally absorb moisture as readily as concrete would.

Q : Hi I am about to tile a bath area which has painted plaster board if I prime using this primer will the tiles be ok?

Answers (1)
Advice

We would recommend removing as much paint as possible before using our Primer G, as you would be tiling onto the paint, not the plasterboard.

Q : Do I need to prime bare plasterboards before tileing

Answers (1)
Advice

When tiling onto plasterboard, a primer not required unless this has been skimmed with plaster. If you are using plasterboard in a bathroom area or wet areas, we would recommend using a waterproofing kit (SKU: 1248KITUK) before installing tiles.
