Our Top Bedroom Ideas For a Calming Space

Whatever style you’re going for, your bedroom design is an incredibly important one. It’s where we go to sleep, so it has to be a space we feel comfortable and welcomed by. We have a range of tips and ideas to ensure your bedroom is one you’ll want to spend all of your down time in.

Begin by Planning your Layout –

Any successful design will start with careful planning and attention to detail. All you have to do is grab a pencil and some paper and quickly sketch out the layout you have in mind for your bedroom space. Make a few crucial measurements and note them down, ensuring everything is going to fit where you want it to. By doing this you can ensure that you’re avoiding the disappointment of something not fitting in place when you come to move the furniture around.

Consider your Storage Options –

If you perhaps have a slightly smaller bedroom space than is desired, consider using storage options that can double up on their functions. Take this mirrored cabinet for example, perfect for checking the fit before you leave the house in the morning, but also perfect for hiding away any bits and bobs from around your room that you don’t want cluttering up the space.

Opt for Minimalism –

The minimalistic style is one that has proved very popular throughout recent months, and we can understand why! When used in the bedroom, simple neutral shades throughout the space create a serene and calm atmosphere. This is perfect for the bedroom space to calm and relax us as we’re winding down for the day and drifting off to sleep. To achieve something similar, stick to natural textures and colours. Woods and wicker are always good options and work beautifully together. Another combination is beige and white, whether they’re colours you use across the wall and floor space or across your accessories like bed sheets and rugs.

If you feel as though your bedroom space is looking a bit too flat and lifeless, introduce muted colours throughout in small amounts, to add a bit of characterful colour. It can also be a great idea to implement house plants, to give your room masses of life.

Create a Reading Nook –

Reading nooks in the bedroom encourage a healthy hobby for the bedroom. Reading is incredibly relaxing and better for the eyes than staring at a screen so close to bedtime. Your reading nook should be somewhere you feel safe and cosy, so introduce plenty of cushions and blankets to the area to achieve this. Having your bookshelf nearby ties the space together to make it a designated reading area, rather than just a chair with some blankets on. Make sure you have a good amount of lighting in the area you decide to place your reading nook, as reading in dim lighting can cause strain on the eyes.

Combine Neutrals with Bold Colours –

Alternatively to the minimalistic approach, try out some bold, highly saturated colours in your bedroom. These are shades that are typically darker and muted and can be incredibly relaxing in the bedroom space. Combining these with neutral tones is effective in ensuring the space doesn’t become too overwhelming and energetic. Try mixing and matching some bolder colours to give your bedroom more depth and texture.

Make Use of a Desk –

If you have a desk in your bedroom and you’re not quite sure of what to do with it, don’t worry, we have some solutions for you. We would, however, recommend that you don’t use this as a workspace, as your bedroom should be a space for you to unwind and destress, no to worry about work and hectic deadlines. Using the space as somewhere to look after yourself is a much better use of the desk. For example, create your own pamper station, where you can do your hair and make sure you’re ready for the day. Or, a space to draw, paint, read, or any other hobby you feel relaxes your mind.

Use Warm and Comforting Lighting –

Cold lighting in the bathroom is a big no no. It’s harsh on the eye and is usually used to focus on more intricate tasks. Instead, by using warm lighting in your bedroom, you’re relaxing your eyes and getting them ready for sleep. Smaller lamps and lights work great in the bedroom, so you can gradually reduce the amount of light in your room, instead of going from lots of light to absolutely none. Vice versa with turning the lights on in the morning, it will gradually increase the amount of light in the room rather than harshly going from absolutely none to bright lights.

Let in as Much Light as Possible –

To contradict our last point, natural lighting can be incredibly beneficial to your mood and wake-up routine. For starters, with exposure to natural light our body produces more Vitamin D, also helping us focus and get more done throughout the day. This can be achieved through larger windows and by keeping those blinds open until you want to go to sleep. If you struggle with sleeping with too much light, you can miss this suggestion, we won’t be offended.
