Ultimate Combinations: Brights and Whites

This month we take a look at a perfect Ultimate Combination that produces easy-to-update colour schemes. Start off with your favourite bright colour and add elements of white (which can be extended to off-white, ivory etc). Update at intervals or if you fancy a change around by adding another zip of clashing colour – think a bright pink rug or vibrant turquoise lamp.

Orange Crush

Yes, we admit it! Every time we mention bright schemes, our Metro Orange Wall Tiles have to be included. They are a fabulous, uplifting colour that can add a zing of joy to a very simple colour scheme – just add black floor tiles (try Lounge Matt Black Porcelain), white walls, and a white bath, such as the Stafford Shower Bath from our sister company  Bathroom Mountain. Who also, pleasingly, have excellent black taps and fittings, such as the Soar collection. Keep it simple, keep it bright.

Everything’s Gone Green

Choose our Village Emerald Green Wall Tiles for an on-trend kitchen update. Green-painted kitchens are currently very fashionable, but not everyone wants to commit to colourful cabinetry. If that’s you, go for tiles instead. Village tiles measure 200mm x 65mm and can be installed vertically, horizontally or in a lattice/herringbone format for extra impact. Pale work surfaces and white walls get that bright and white concept just right.

Bright White

Use our Manacor White ceramic tiles to kick start a white scheme. Then add some colours for impact – such as Manacor in Ocean Blue, Blue Moon, Blush Pink, Basil or Glacier. These tiles measure 400mm x 65mm and again are absolutely fantastic for installing in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal format. Remember, white kitchen or bathroom tiles can work with absolutely any bright colour …

Going to Extremes

Get the white absolutely right with our  Extreme White Polished Porcelain Floor Tiles,  which can be teamed with any matching white wall tiles. Here, the ‘bright’ aspect is provided by lots of verdant greenery, which will hopefully thrive beautifully in a warm bathroom! If you wanted to switch the colour scheme up with another blast of colour, consider re-painting the exterior of the bathtub. We’re suggesting shocking pink or vivid turquoise!

Perfect Petals

Choose brights with a white background for a cheerful bedroom scheme. This is the Anyday Petals Duvet Cover Set from  John Lewis & Partners

Yes, it’s Yellow!

Another eye-popping shade from the Electric Collection by YesColours, as mentioned above. This is the impressively bright Electric Yellow.

White Out

A white or silver floor is a simple way of getting to the Ultimate Combination of Brights & Whites – it leaves your colour scheme completely open to additional bright patches of colour – perhaps just a simple painted feature wall or a bright rug or side table. Two white Luxury Vinyl Tile ideas for you here … top, it’s our Watson Frost White Luxury Click Vinyl Flooring, and bottom, it’s Watson Silver Luxury Click Vinyl Flooring. These waterproof planks are a fantastic way of getting that white-wood-look into the bathroom – and of course are equally suited to all other rooms in the home, too. Each plank measures 178mm x 1235mm and is 3mm thick. If you’re new to click-to-fit flooring, download our step-by-step installation guide.

Geometric Brights

We couldn’t resist bringing you a bright suggestion for a rug to go on top of your white tiles, LVT or engineered wood flooring. This is the Retro Geometric Rug in Orange from Limelace. It’s made from 100% polypropylene with a 9mm pile, so would be practical anywhere in the home …

Bright Blues

Adonis Blue Wood Paint from Thorndown Paints is a cheerful, summery blue, which is opaque with a satin finish – meaning it can be used on any wood, inside or out. We’re thinking perhaps for window frames and sills in a white kitchen or bathroom.

Blue Yonder

Creating a pale ‘shell’ for a room is a good approach to developing a colourful scheme that can expand and adjust over the years. Here, this kitchen-family space uses pale grey tiles – these are our  Stonebase Light Grey ceramic floor tiles, which replicate natural stone. The walls of the room are white, the kitchen cabinetry is natural timber. This leaves opportunity to add an array of colours at any stage, perhaps changing things around seasonally or adding colourful details such as cushions or vases. Here, the colour element is a blue sofa – add more colour with a throw and cushions.
